Getting Started with Universal Service Monitoring (USM)

Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, you’ll be able to do the following:

Describe how Universal Service Monitoring (USM) provides service details without instrumenting code.
Navigate the Software Catalog to access and review services, their details, and corresponding telemetry.
Filter and query tracked services in the Software Catalog UI.
Identify and analyze details for an individual service, including the telemetry collected by Datadog.
Create an entity definition in the Software Catalog to enhance default USM data.

Primary Audience

As part of the Configuration learning path, this course is designed for anyone, regardless of role, who aims to begin detecting and monitoring application services with Datadog.

Prerequisites

For the best learning experience, we recommend the following prerequisites:

Familiarity with Datadog Learning Center lab environments, or the Learning Environment course.
Basic understanding of monitoring and observability concepts, or the Introduction to Observability course.
