APM Rate Limiting and Retention

Abstract

In this course, you'll learn how to control APM trace retention and rate limiting for your applications. You'll learn how to set ingestion rate limits and create retention filters, create metrics from traces, and monitor trace usage to better manage your APM data.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

Create retention filters to better manage APM traces
Generate metrics from traces for longer retention
Specify rate limits to optimize APM data collection
Use built-in metrics to estimate trace ingest and retention usage

Primary Audience

This course is designed for DevOps Engineers and Datadog Administrators who are responsible for data collection, retention, and cost control in Datadog.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for this course are the following:

Completion of the Learning Environment course
Ability to use a Linux command line shell
Experience configuring and using Datadog APM
Completion of the Introduction to Application Performance Monitoring course
